“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt 4:4)
“Though I put my law in writing for him in ten thousand rules, they are to him as a strange thing.” (Hosea 8:12)
Just as natural food is important and crucial to our survival as humans on earth, so also is Bible Study crucial to us as Christians. The bible is the Word of God, the surest way by which God communicates with us. It is the sure guide of Christians and contains advice on whatever situation one can ever go through in life.
(2 Timothy 3: 16) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (NKJV)
A child that has not being fed regularly and with the right nutrients is malnourished; sadly, so are many Christians. We walk around looking healthy, neat and happy and Yeah, maybe we are but we are dying a little at a time everyday from spiritual malnourishment. We feel that gentle nudge in our spirits whenever we see our bibles and yet we ignore it. We say “I am late now” or “I am too busy” or “I will get to it in the evening when I get home”. Yet we pray so earnestly for God to speak to us, show us the way, give us wisdom, when we neglect our answers everyday.
(Matt 22: 29) Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. (NKJV)
We make many excuses for not reading the bible, this includes “I don’t have enough time”, “I don’t understand it”, “It’s too complicated”…the list is endless. However no matter what excuse yo give, the root cause is that deep down in your heart, You don’t believe the Bible is the word of God!
Ooh, you do? If you believe that the bible is the very word of God and that it is the will of God for you. Then you will read it, you will pay more attention to it. You will drop all you are doing and search the scriptures, it will be on your daily To-Do, you wont leave your house without it, you wont make any decision without searching for what God says about it. The Bible is the word of God and it doesn’t change. The story of Adam and Eve is still as potent as it was when it freshly happened.
(Mt 24:35) Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Today, make a decision to commit to studying the word of God. Let it into your life. Give it a permanent seat; it is the only way you can grow spiritually
(1Pe 2:2) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:(KJV)
(Romans 15: 4) For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. (NKJV)
What is your excuse for not reading the Bible?
